Versatile Ground Cover

KURAPIA is a newly developed highly versatile ground cover. Once established it requires little maintenance and needs less water than even California’s cool season turf grasses. KURAPIA’s sturdy structure makes it ideal for many uses. KURAPIA works well to cover highway and freeway shoulders, rooftops, public utility areas, commercial properties and solar farm landscapes.

Light Foot Traffic

KURAPIA can tolerate light foot traffic but is not recommended for heavy foot traffic areas like playgrounds or sports fields. KURAPIA grows close to the ground and rarely exceeds 2.5″ – 3″ inch high. Most of the year the plant is covered in small white flowers that are sterile which means it is unable to reproduce itself by seed.

Highly Tolerant

KURAPIA was bred from the California native plant lippia nodiflora found in the coastal regions of California and Japan. KURAPIA is highly tolerant of extremely acidic and basic soils. KURAPIA has already revolutionized landscape management in Japan and is set to provide solutions for landscape management and engineering around the world.

Never Needs Mowing

Recently the City of L.A. Hyperion Wastewater treatment plant in Glendale decided to follow BEST PRACTICES and installed several thousand sq.ft. of our extremely low water use KURAPIA Groundcover in several areas around the facility.
Their Maintenance Department also LOVES that KURAPIA never needs to be mowed or fertilized providing additional cost and time savings for decades.

Deep Roots

When asked about KURAPIA ground control, Soils Solutions Founder Robert Sjoquist replied, “Our research shows KURAPIA rooting depths of 6′-8′ consistently.”
